Caspian Gull ~ 1st. W ~ Dungeness, Kent - 30.11.13

Our No: 1 choice came good again ..

With northerly winds, we set ourselves up and it wasn't long before I found a Caspian Gull 1st winter at the back of the feeding group.
It took flight, landed and was now the closest bird to us, giving soft begging calls and standing its ground with wings open aggressive even to Gbbg's.
A few short flights and landed further away.

Now all this time a birder stood way back viewing from 30m behind us,
He waited until I called him over before coming any closer !!!
Respect to you Nic Hallam ..

News went out and it wasn't long before the crowd had swelled to 4, as we were joined by Ploddingbirder.
The mass crowd soon dispersed and the bird was ours again ..

Caspian Gull ~ 1st. W

A nice confiding bird at times ..

A lovely bird to study at close range, showing the dark central shaft streak on the scapulars and on the open upperwing the way that each greater covert terminated with a cream border which shows against the dark primaries & secondaries.
