Caspian Gull ~ 1st. W ~ Dungeness, Kent - 24.09.16

Tuesday 27 September 2016

Wind direction had swung around to SSE on a in-coming tide which resulted in a increase in gull numbers ..
Even with this rise in bird numbers it was a slow afternoon, with a few YLG's and LBBG's being the highlights and no new ringed birds either ...

17:30 and a birder from Hampshire, Ted P came over and seconds later a Caspian appeared ...

Caspian Gull ~ Juvenile ~ Dungeness, Kent - 29.08.16

Friday 2 September 2016

This was the 2nd Caspian Gull of the day for the Bank Holiday Monday 29th, It was found on the 28th ..
The bird came in just a little after 18:00 ..
Another nice Juvenile Caspian, a big bulky bird and not the most obvious Caspian as the head was big, round shaped plus the bill wasn't particularly long either ..

When at rest, standing, sitting and as it seemed especially on the water it just didn't standout at all ..
The Greater and Medium Coverts were fringed fairly heavily with light cream making it blend in against the Herring Gulls ..
