Audouin's Gull ~ Ad. W ~ Majorca, Spain - Oct '13

Saturday, 9 November 2013

By far the best location in Majorca to see Audouin's Gull is Port de Pollenca beach, they rest on the rocks just off shore and cruise the beach all day ..

This location is also the best for photography but only late afternoon to sunset.
Two reasons, in the morning the sun is directly in your face and by leaving it till late afternoon the sun is now behind you ..
Also the beach is very busy, early evening and people start to leave the beach. I sat drinking beer or Frappalatte's at the beach bar waiting for my chance, some people just don't know when to leave or get out the sea ..
I gave myself a deadline of 17:15 which gave me an hours light to play with, when that time arrived so did the gull frenzy with my help, a few screams and they soon got out the sea !!!

Every evening I was there, it was a great way to end the day ..

" Less is more " nah sod that ...
You can never have enough !!

So here's loads of images ..

Audouin's Gull ~ Ad. W

The above image is one of my favourites ..

This ventral view of the banking bird is not the easiest flight position to capture, but sometimes you get lucky !!

Well if you made it this far, then did you notice that most were still growing P10 and a few also P9 ..

And that's it, finished, done, the end of a very productive trip ..

Nice set Mick, were there any other interesting birds?

Hello Mike, I only went with a set game plan of 1st & 2nd W. Audouin's as main targets and other large gulls as back-ups.
I also stayed away from all the main reserves which meant that apart from the gulls, I saw very little else on my travels. The island did seem bird less but probably because of me not going to the main areas, all my locations were to maximize my chances with the gulls ...
