Sligo up to Killybegs, Ireland ... 04.02.12

Thursday, 9 February 2012

After a lovely Full Irish Breakfast at the B&B, it was then only a 2 mile drive to Doorly Park in Sligo.
In the gloom down by the weir were two pairs of Goldeneye.
At Deep Water Quay were a pair of Red-breasted Merganser's.
We tried Doorly Park again which by now had some gull's and amongst the B.H.Gulls was a 2nd.W - Iceland & 3rd.W- Iceland ...
Not only was it dark & gloomy, now it was raining !! but we still had a quick fire round at the white-wingers !!

Iceland Gull ~ 2nd.W

Iceland Gull ~ 3rd.W

The rain forced us to move early so we started the drive up to Donegal, first stop was Ballygilgan NR, a.k.a Lissadell " The Goose Field" and feeding with the many hundreds of Barnacle Goose were two Richardson's Canada Goose ...
We also did a reece of a few sites Bundoran etc but visibility was poor so kept on going to Killybegs, Donegal by the time we arrived the rain had stopped.
Driving around to get views of the many hundreds of gull's only produced 1 Glaucous & 1 Iceland, a different day or earlier even may have been better but no images of gull's as all were roosting on the roofs !!
But in the harbour was a little bonus ..

Black Guillimot

After a disappointing Killybegs experience we made the drive to Ardglass Harbour, Downpatrick in Northern Ireland and by a stroke of luck we had a really nice B&B for the night !!
